Can anyone recommend a good US History (Exploration to Civil War) textbook for 8th grade middle school. Students are one or two grades below reading level. Likewise, do you have any suggestions for 7th grade civics for students one or two grades below reading level.

curiositycat I've been very happy with History Alive! They use what they call "considerate text," and my students have always found it be quite readable (although the vast majority of them are at or slightly above grade level).
