Now that the school year has come to a close I am looking back and seeing the same problem I see every year: how to I teach economics. I am a 5th and 6th grade social studies teacher in Ohio and those economic standards are rough!
AshleyAnother idea is having students create a budget! Teachers can give them a budget and pretend to be the bank. Students will have to pay bills and other necessities and use credit! It is a fun and exciting simulation!
Looking for people with direct experience teaching social studies, and in particular World History and Government, to create comprehensive lesson plans in 45-60 minute "chunks". The lesson plans must be all-inclusive such that they could be downloaded and taken to the classroom the next day.
We will provide you a template to fill out the lesson plan. You can reference primary sources like photos, political cartoons, but no videos from other educational sites. (youtube is fine).
Each lesson should have: - A link to the Common Core listed -An engagement activity of 4-6 minutes (a "do now", an "entry ticket", or brief question/response to get students motivated) -Introductory materials to get them thinking about key concepts or vocabulary -An interactive activity. Examples might include student discussions, stations, "gallery walks", debates, pair and share, creating a comic book or essay response, etc. This is the most important "piece" of the lesson plan. -An ending or "recap" activity. Most teachers will recognize this as an exit ticket, a wrap-up, etc.
You will also need to suggest 1-2 types of graphic organizers that will go along with your lesson, although you do not actually have to create them as we have a designer who will do this. You might just suggest "Venn Diagram with "Salem Witch Trials and Red Scare" at the top or something like that.
We are looking for high-quality engaging lesson plans. Ultimately these could be used with or without a textbook, but a 20 minute" read and answer these questions" activity is not as high quality as an interactive station. The reading materials will need to be included with your lesson. If you want to create activities but not do the writing material portion, the price will be less and please contact us to discuss this project.
Price: Each lesson is $25. If you are an experienced teacher, you probably can do this in two hours or less and you may already have the baseline ideas and materials to do it even more quickly. A template will be provided to applicants with appropriate qualifications so that you can ensure your ability to create something similar.
The current project is for US history/World History/Government, so please share if you have experience in that arena and whether you may already have lesson plans in that field that meet the requirements listed above. Please submit 1-2 lesson plans as a sample and a brief background of your teaching experience. This is a long-term opportunity with a great deal of flexibility, so long as you can meet deadlines.
Payouts once per week based on how many lessons you turned in!
I need and would greatly appreciate your help! As a former secondary teacher, I always struggled to implement literacy instruction into my classroom. Now I’m a doctoral candidate at George Mason University and want to use my dissertation to capture how practicing teachers feel about literacy instruction.
If you could please take 20-30 minutes out of your day to take the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KL6ZJFN it would be greatly appreciated. No identifying information will be obtained and your responses will be completely anonymous.
The more teachers participate in the survey, the greater the impact of the research; so if you can forward this message on to any other secondary content area teachers you know it would be tremendously helpful.
Additionally, after completing the survey you will have the option to provide your email address to be entered into a drawing to win one of four $50 Target gift cards.
Thank you so very much for your time and professional courtesy. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at eramire4@gmu.edu.

What skills do you think such colonists should have? List 10 skills, then decide whether each skill is necessary for every colonist, or is only needed by a few of them.
