In terms of opinion how helpful would a facebook page for the class in engaging the students critical thinking skills with history while outside of the classroom. Also could be used to assign or remind of homework/projetcs.

Set up a class website instead There's no need to present your classroom materials on Facebook. Why expose them to that barrage of advertisements? And Facebook is commonly thought of as SOCIAL media. Better not to even go down that road, if only because your school district might frown upon it or issue some future edict against student/teacher interactions on Facebook.

Bud Listen- FB is where the kids are. I made a FB page for my AP class. I Structured it with security options I wanted, and it was highly successful. I don't "friend" students, but the group page was useful. The kids used it and liked it. When the class was over, I deleted it. FB CAN be used effectively for class.
