I am an 11th grade social studies teacher currently teaching American History to honor students. I was thinking of having my students create fake twitter accounts for different presidents and/or other historical figures. So, for instance, if a student was assigned with Andrew Jackson, they might tweet something like "The bank helps industrial elitists at the expense of the farmer #getridofthebank #agriculturalnation @ThomasJefferson" and the student assigned to Jefferson may tweet back and bring Hamilton into the discussion.

Has anyone used Twitter in their own classrooms? What was your experience with it? Was the lesson effective and engaging, or were students to easily distracted by the social media?
