I couldn't find a free Turtle Graphics program that I liked, so I wrote one myself (for Windows) and would like to give it away. I was surprised to learn that shareware.com, etc. charge to post free software! My little version of Turtle Graphics has commands without brackets (Forward 50 or fd 50), one line at a time or building new words like Square. It is all in one window with automatic save and load so it is very hard for the kids to lose their work. I think it is suitable for grades 4 to 7. I tried it with grade 5 and they enjoyed it. I used flash quiz tools to add interactive quizzes to my courseware druing the last half semester. most of my students benefited from those interactive courseware. quizzes can help students solidify the learning content, and attract their attention.
The quiz tools I've come cross, Articulate QuizMaker, the most powerful one I've experienced. You can build either graded quizzes or surveys. The content are SCORM and AICC conformable. It's easy to use and sophisticate, but got the highest price, $399. info page: [link removed]
Wondershare QuizCreator, it's really worth to try, it can build flash quizzes as good as QuizMaker, and also conformant for SCORM 1.2 and 2004 and AICC. And, they build two web database samples for collecting test results. The only deficiency is that it can not create surveys at present(their info page says it make surveys, but I can find the feature, maybe they will add the feature in the future). Consider the price,$99.95, I suggest you choose this tool. info page: [link removed]
Tinada QuizBuilder, the user interface is so neat, the same to the quiz template. It can only build graded quizzes. the price is affordable, $199. [link removed]
After you build flash quizzes, intert them into your ppt courseware or presentations. Or, you can use the presentation tools to convert ppt to flash. Ariticulate and Wondershare provides those tools to make it. You could also download them from: For Articulate: [link removed]
Now, download them and build your own quizzes to attract your students and enjoy it!
I have tried both the articulate product and the wondershare one (both allow demos). I thought both were quite satisfactory but I cannot seem to be able to get either of them to create quizzes that have the kind of scoring system that I want (I need something that penalizes wrong answers with quarter point subtraction). It seems that all these templates have very narrow sets of rules and features. Am I wrong? DO any of you know of a quizmaking took that allows me to customize the grading of the quizes?

Has anyone come across a software program which tracks student sign in and sign out times? I'd love to find a program that would allow students in a classroom to sign in and out, and which will track times in and out like the standard sheets that many of us use. I can see this being used as a tool when meeting with parents to show how much class time some of our students are missing. I would also love a program which links to my fellow teachers and doesn't allow more then a preset number of students out of the room at one time from an entire team.
Has anyone ever lost the Menu Bar in Microsoft Word? Looking at other computers in our lab and talking with other tech teachers, it seems as if this bar (the one with the words--file, etc) should be permanent but it is gone on one of my machines and I can't get it back. I've uninstalled Office and re-installed it with no luck. We are running XP and Office 2000. Thanks.
Okay - done. I think there should probably been a question asking "Would you take another online course" or something along those lines. In my case the answer would have been yes.

Take a look at Scratch, from MIT. It is a programming language that has functions and loops that snap together. Great for projects. Great logic and sequencing training. Open ended. Opportunity for kids to share their work on the Scratch site. This is LOGO in steroids. Free. Mac and Windows.
Thanks George. I have downloaded it and will take a look at it. It seems to be a great product. I looked at some of the examples.
