North Carolina beach suggestions

I'm looking for recommendations for a good beach in North Carolina for a summer vacation. I'd like to avoid some place that is overly crowded, such as Myrtle Beach or Ocean City, MD. I'd like a variety of restaurants. Any ideas?

SueAnn The Outer Banks of NC are really great. If you go be sure to take the ferry over to Ocracoke Island. We spent a lot of time there when I was growing up. You should research that area.

Marci Topsail Island, NC is a fantastic area! My husband and I are in our late 20's and vacation there EVERY year with my parents and our (now 10) year old daughter. It is not crowded like Myrtle Beach but is a very neat little town with everything you need nearby. I have pics if you are interested.
