Does anyone know of any small grants that I could apply for to buy some sets of books for a literature circle program that I would like to begin in my classroom this fall?

Does anyone know where I can get funding to open a Daycare. I live in South Carolina. It has been a dream of mine to open a daycare center for a long time but I need some financial help to do so. I have already found a building in the neighborhood with an elementary school. I found out that it has been zoned for a daycare center. I have already applied for the center to be a non-profit organization. I don't have the funds to start up. If anyone knows where I can apply for grants that I can get soon please let me know.

Well let's get one thing straight right away. Grants don't work on your timetable they work on their own time table. In fact I posted about daycares being able to sign up as part of an "official" declared daycare center and be declared as a home agency of the government. That way your daycare can get government subsidies and grant funding. The deadline to sign up for that is July 1st and you can contact them by phone. If you don't sign up for that date then you'll have to wait until the next go around.
Hopefully you have read some of the past posts from others that want to start their own daycare. This question has been asked and answered so many times on this board that the answers will help provide you with a lot of information.
It's funny that you should mention "dreams" because there are some grant programs specifically aimed at helping people fulfill their dreams. Grant awards of $50,000 and more.
Any grant that you will be eligible for will want to at least see some sort of business plan.
And just because you are operating in one state doesn't mean that you should just look for grants in that state. There are many national grant programs out there and sometimes they provide more in grant monies.
You can also increase your grant program possibilities if you're providing special curriculm or special needs. There are many different categories of grant programs that you may be eligible to apply for so don't just limit yourself to daycare-related grant programs.
If people were to provide you with grant programs on just the information that you posted above there would be more grant programs submitted to you than you could ever use and even then though you may get some grant programs mentioned to you you would still have to go through the process of reading the eligibility requirements just to see if you're eligible to apply for them.

You can find this kind of information all over the Internet. There are basic business plan templates out there and there are business plans specifically geared towards starting and maintaining a daycare business/center. A lot of these sites offer the templates for anybody to simply download.

Well you haven't mentioned what kind of "support" you need. And I'm assuming that you're talking about a daycare center but you can say if you're talking about another kind of center.
I have just added a very inspirational story about how one woman started her own daycare. Like the times that I have suggested she was able to secure a property and she lived on the second floor and ran her daycare on the first floor.
The information doesn't mention a business plan but she did get a grant for seed money from a foundation that requires a business plan as part of the submission process.
I think that this would be good information for those of you that want to start your own daycare to see how someone else started theirs. She began her daycare out of her home and word spread and she had more children and she needed more room.
I teach science at a TX middle school. Discipline is such a huge problem (despite teaching routines, procedures, and rules) that I'm installing a hidden camera in my room. The TEA website says nothing about the issue. Anyone have any info on its legality?
You need to check with your school board on the policy of the district.

The Pathways Within Roads to Reading Initiative makes book donations to school, after-school, summer, community, day- care, and library reading and literacy programs. The applicant program must have at least a six-month history; have a tutoring component or a strong focus on remedial reading in a structured environment; hold meetings over a period of time; and be continually and consistently under the direct supervision of professionals, para- professionals, or volunteers. The community where the organization is located must be undeserved and have a population of less than 50,000. On average, a hundred to two hundred books appropriate for ages 0 to young adult are awarded per grantee. Books are currently available in English only.
There is a administrative of $ 75.00 to offset the cost of postage.
I do not know what kind of books these are but most generally books range in price from $15 to $30 a piece so it might be a good deal. Check it out first.

Any school or parent group that has a group tax ID number or official 501c (3) status from the IRS is eligible. Projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit will be favored. Up to $5,000/school is available.

The biggest difference is in the names themselves. Basically speaking a non-profit's budget should come out to zero - meaning that both the expenses and profits cancel each other out. With a for-profit if your profits are more than your expenses then this is basically money that you profited from the daycare which you can use any way you want without having to put it back into the daycare business.
