I too have a beta that has a sore it its back. I have been
giving him the Melafix, and put him in a 2.5 gallon tank
with a light...he is much happier and swimming better.
However, the sore does not seem to be healing? Will this
ever actually heal? It started out small, but seems to be
getting bigger? it is where a top fin would normally be,
but it looks white and open? Will other medicine help him,
or is he as good as he will get?

Please track down some Tetracycline and give that to your
betta. Follow the instructions as carefully as you can. You
want to prevent that from becoming infected if it already isn't.

Medicate with tetracycline or maracyn 2-- it's a great antibiotic. Also, add 1/2
teaspoon aquarium salt per gallon of water. It's a great preventative and also a
healant.
