Has anyone ever done a year long scrapbook project? I teach 5th grade and I thought about doing this so they will have their elementary school days in an album. I would have them interview relatives and write about several different things, but I was wondering what else to include. I would love any insight on this project. Thanks-

I am going to try it this year. i picked up a book by Carson Delossa called Scrapbooking Student Writing. I am going to put short writing pieces and poems in it. I might also have them do a little summary sheet about activities from the month.
I am a technology intregration specialist for an elementary school with grades 4-6. Last year I teamed up with a fifth grade learning support teacher to turn each of the students' writing pieces into a scrapbook. This year the students are all in 6th grade and we are continuing to build on our ideas.
The students were always reluctant to write. When we started the scrapbooking idea and including technology into it, they really got engaged in their writing. By the end of last school year the students had a scrapbook full of writing pieces that they shared with their classmates.
The topics we covered included the required pieces in the curriculum: descriptive, personal narrative, letter, etc. We also did some free writing, poetry, and a descriptive piece on a person who is close to them. Additionally, we had them create a craft, then take a digital picture of it. They had to describe in detail their finished product. Then we included the picture on the page.
Some of the technology we used included Inspiration for brainstorming, word processing (of course!), digital photography, and the Internet. This year we would like to also incorportate power point by printing copies of slides the students create.
There's a great free scrapbooking software that you can download from the Internet that our director of technology found for us that we would like to try also. However, our printers only print 8.5x11 paper and the scrapbooks are 12x12. Any suggestions?
We'd love to hear ideas from other people and what you might be doing with writing scrapbooks!

Hell my name is Tamara. I will be 21 next month and I have a daughter that will be a year old in October. I have wanted to go back to school since the moment I have had my daughter but since her father doesn't help at all and I a am afraid to put him on child support I lack the money to go back to school. At one point I was working three jobs just to make ends meet but know I have a job that allows me not to have to work the other two wich leaves time for school. I did really well in High school I gradguated with high honors ad I feel it would be a shame if I were to waste my inteligence. However I am uncertain on how to go bout getting a grant. I have asked my mother and my father to help me but they feel that I shouldn't have gotten myslef pregnant. If I hadn't I would still be at Clark University... I am really uncertain as to what to do. If any one could help or knows anything that can help me I would greatly apprieciate the help. Tahnks once again.
I am doing an energy project with my grade 7 students and have a few ideas which I hope my students would find original.
The main idea of the project is that cleaner energy is better to the environment.
Some activities I have planned: 1) Designing (Design Tech) an building a simple solar oven (Science), which we want to cook food in for a mini enterprise fete ( Business Studies) for the school community. (Hopefully it will be edible) 2) A Energy Magazine ( Art, ESL, Modern Forreign Languages,IT, Science and Social Studies) with Local and Global articles. This is where I would like your help or participation. Did you do something similar? or Would you like to involve your class to take part in a news article about Renewable Energy Projects in your area/country? 3) Energy Art Calendar 2007. I am planning to release a calendar for 2007 with art sketches, photos, portraits, collages etc. I would like to reserve 4 months for international contributions. An exchange of art pieces can be possible if you want your school or class to take part.

I have all the 3rd and 4th graders in Easton School District in my classroom- all 12 of them! 7 fourth graders and 5 third graders. Easton is a "town" on Snoqualmie Pass in Washington State. Our family-like school has about 100 students K-12. Small schools have many benefits, but at the same time, I think the kids in my class really relish the opportunity to make new friends, and are especially grateful for exposure to cultural or ethnic diversity. Last year, my class corresponded with a class on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, where I used to teach. They were like game show winners every time letters arrived- thrilled! We would love to have pen pals in places very different from our home- tropical Hawaii or Florida, inner cities, the South, and or the desert. We'll tell you about all the environmental education we're doing with the salmon that are getting ready to run in the river near our school, keep you updated on our snowfall, and let you know when we spot bobcat, cougar, or bear. Write to us! Kaya McLaren's 3rd and 4th grade class Easton School PO Box 8 Easton, WA 98925
Hi Kaya! I teach 18 3rd graders in Orlando,FL. We are an innercity school. I think my kids would love to have pen pals. Many of my students have never been out of FL nor have they seen snow. Tomorrow I will ask them what they think. I am sure we will have a letter out by Friday. Have a wonderful week.
