My name is Lauren, I teach English as a Foreign Language in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, and I am working on a project with my High School students. The idea is to have them work with materials in English about the environment, and later on they will produce posters and other materials with tips (in English) about what people can do to help save the planet. I am looking for a high school teacher from any English speaking country who would be willing to produce the same kind of materials with his/her students. I am looking for teachers to participate in my leaf exchnage this fall. This is my fifth year organizing this exchange and it has continued to be very successful! This project really gives our learners a glimpse of fall around the country first hand and encompasses all curricul...See MoreI am looking for teachers to participate in my leaf exchnage this fall. This is my fifth year organizing this exchange and it has continued to be very successful! We have had a wide range of classes participate from PreK to 7th grade. This project really gives our learners a glimpse of fall around the country first hand and encompasses all curriculum areas: -language arts (letter writing) -math (sorting, graphing,counting) -social studies (mapping) -science (climate, fall changes)
Participating in the exchange includes: -Collecting and laminating fall leaves from your area -Labeling the leaf with the type of tree it came from -Writing a letter from your class that tells us where in your state you are located (for mapping)and a little about your area, school, class, things you like to do in the fall, etc. -Pictures and postcards are always a fun addition, but completely NOT MANDATORY.
This exchange has a limit of 20 participants, so that it doesn't become overwhelming. It will be first come first serve. I need everyone interested in participating to send me their first and last name, school name, and full school address (including zip). When you send me this information, you are agreeing to send leaves and letters to ALL the other participants; it's just fair that way!
Please have your information to me by Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
The next e-mail that will go out to participants will include a little more detailed information with dates and all the names and addresses of the participants! This is such a FUN project, you won't regret being a part of it! Feel free to e-mail me an questions you may have!
FYI: Leaves need to make it to all the classes participating by the week before Thanksgiving. So you will have more that a month to prep everything you need to do.
