A great group of teachers is looking to complete their exchange this week! I would be willing to consider a few other states in order for us to reach an exchange of 50.
***These are the states we still NEED*** AK, DC, NE, SD, VT, WA, WY Please Join Us! Free Mailing Labels! This should be a fun and exciting project for both the children and teachers! I am looking for teachers who are dedicated and will participate fully in this project. Each teacher will be responsible for sending a postcard to each of the other states. Please include information about your state such as state symbols and interesting facts. Our third grade curriculum includes learning about our town so we will include that information as well. In return, you will receive a postcard back from each of the states involved. Address labels will be provided to you if you wish. Also, a list of names, addresses, and school websites will be e- mailed to you. My goal is to mail address labels by September 15th. The mailing deadline for the postcards is November 4th. If you are interested in participating in this exchange, please send the following information to my email address: kimberleyg2003yahoo.com.

My class has been receiving responses to our Aranea the Spider project. Aranea was one of the three spiders that stayed with Wilbur at the end of Charlotte's Web. My class is sending out paper spiders with a single journal page and a letter explaining that Aranea is having adventures. The letter requests that the receiver show Aranea around and return the journal page. She's been to Idaho, Oregon, Florida, Ohio, and to visit the President of Stanford. California Senator Cox took her to the capitol. It's turning into a very exciting project. Please let me know if you'd like her to visit. Email me directly at [email removed].
We will kick-off our annual international online collaborative learning programs on the 3rd of October. Please come to visit our web site at [link removed].

San Diego (December 14, 2005) - Sally Ride Science™ announced today that the TOYchallenge™ sign up deadline has been extended to January 6, 2006. Toys are a great way to learn about science, engineering and the design process. Sally Ride Science is giving students in grades five through eight the chance to step out of their classrooms and develop their engineering and design skills by creating their dream toy for the fourth annual TOYchallenge.
The mission of this fun-fueled toy- and game-design competition is to motivate kids, especially girls, to get involved in engineering design and recognize that there's engineering in everything.
“TOYchallenge provides kids with a really fun way to explore the principles of science and engineering, they’ll also learn valuable lessons in problem solving and team work along the way,” said Sally Ride, founder of Sally Ride Science. “It is a great tool for keeping middle school-age children, especially girls, in the ‘technical pipeline.’”
TOYchallenge 2006 launched on September 12, 2005. Creative kids can easily join in the fun. The competition is open to fifth through eighth graders in the U.S., its territories, or possessions, and Canada during the Fall 2005/Spring 2006 school year. Team size can range from three to six members, half of which must be girls. To get started, teams must: find an adult coach (18 years of age, or older) and sign up by January 6 (fee is $45 per team); then choose from themed-toy categories like “Games for the Family” or “Get out and Play” and start brainstorming.
Further TOYchallenge information is available at [link removed].
Last year’s grand prizes included trips to Space Camp® and the creation of personalized Hasbro figures in each team member’s likeness. There will also be awards in each category, and special awards for design, most educational, engineering, originality and team spirit.
