Hi Manya, Are you coming my air or by cruise ship? If by cruise ship, take the tram to the top of Mt Roberts, have dinner at the top, hike around and enjoy the view. Take a bus to Mendenhall Glacier. Good places to eat are: The top of the tram, The Hanger which is downtown or a little place in Douglas called the Douglas Cafe.
We only need 8 more states: AK, DE, HI, ND, SC, UT, VT, WY
(This project combines a traveling buddy and a 50 state postcard exchange)
Our project centers around a stuffed puppy named Ollie! He wants to travel across the country meeting children from each state. We are looking for a participating class from EACH OF THE 50 STATES!

You might try the Anchorage School district, just because there's only one job listed on the website doesn't mean they won't need more once kids register for school. School starts 8/22, teachers go back 8/17, I think principals go back next week (unless they already are).
I wonder what life would be like in Alaska both as a teacher and resident. Though I live in the North Country of NH by the Canadian border and love nature and four seasons, I imagine it could not hold a candle to Alaska's treasures.
Thanks, again, and feel free to respond. Sammy Johnson

Not only will you receive a postcard from EVERY state... you can also track Ollie's travels as he visits each destination!! Imagine the FUN and LEARNING when he visits YOUR CLASS!!

I am scripting a series of teacher's seminars and I am coming to you to find out what you need and want as I want these seminars to be useful. Please take 10 minutes to fill out my survey.
I am looking for teachers who are dedicated and will participate fully in this project. Last year we had had a wonderful response rate and I would like to see that continue.
Each teacher will be responsible for sending a postcard to each of the other states. Please include information about your state such as state symbols and interesting facts. Our third grade curriculum includes learning about our town so we will include that information as well. In return, you will receive a postcard back from each of the states involved. Address labels will be provided to you if you wish. Also, a list of names, addresses, and school websites will be e-mailed to you. My goal is to mail address labels by mid to end of September. The mailing deadline for the postcards is October 27th.
If you are interested in participating in this exchange, please send the following information to my email address: kimberleyg2003yahoo.com.
Name
Grade you teach
E-mail address
Name you would like on mailing label (Ms. G's Third Grade Class)
If you are an elementary teacher who would like to participate in a postcard exchange, email me your school address and your grade level. You would need to send out postcards from your state and in exchange your class would receive postcards from other states. I hope you can join us! Eileen
Once I have all 50 states plus Wash. D.C. filled, I will send out an email with a list of the participating teachers and ways to incorporate this exchange into your curriculum. Also, I will snail mail FREE LABELS to make your life easier. Please contact me now if you would like to join. I need one teacher from each state listed above. By October 1st each participating teacher will need to send a postcard to each participating teacher. Thanks for your help. Contact me if you have questions. :)
I was just interested in finding out what the requirements are for teachers in Alaska. I am a certified special education teacher in Texas. I have not taught in almost 3 years because we are now living overseas in Japan as my Husband is military. We are facing a move in a year and 1/2 and was looking at trying to move to Alaska and just wanted to know what was required to teach again in that state thanks Robin

Robin,
I've linked the state dept of ed, it has all you need. Come on up to Anchorage, we really need good sped teachers, every year we end up having long term subs in sped positions because we can't get enough qualified teachers.
Here's the link for the Anchorage School district [link removed]

The Alaska EED page is very important, but ATP has a summary page, and a variety of other links regarding reciprocity and so on. There is also an active ATP Forum primarily used by teachers who are thinking of relocating to Alaska. Great place to post this question, or search the forum archives.
Good luck, and AK Teacher is right...there is a demand for Special Education teachers in Alaska.
