I am in the DROP with 4and ahalf years as of the end of May. I am thinking about retiring and not finishing up in next Dec. What is anyone's advice about this? Just don't know what to do.
Does Alabama, Mobile, more specifically, have a Reading Recovery program? I am planning to move to Mobile soon and I am a Reading Recovery teacher in Texas. If you do not have this Intervention program, what do you have?

I will be moving to Chambers County this Spring. I retired from teaching in Georgia and would like to teach in Chambers County or nearby. My problem is Alabama certification. I have heard it is a real ordeal-much more complicated and time-consuming than in Georgia or other southeastern states. Are there any Chambers County people out there who could advise me? Has anyone on this board moved to Chambers County from another state? I heard that a teacher should obtain a job before certification is complete, that a system has to 'endorse' a teacher. Is that just a rumor?
I lived in Chambers County for eleven years, but worked in Opelika and my husband was a professor at Auburn University. Usually private schools are more relaxed about certification. It's been twelve years since I've lived there so I'm not sure what the situation is now. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Chambers County is an awesome place to live and teach. As with any district, there are some places better than others. I have taught here for many years and have been quite pleased. That being said, there are zero jobs available here. Alabama is about to go into proration like it was 14 or so years ago and funding is just not there. Chambers pink slipped several teachers with no plans on rehiring those slots, despite what is posted on job boards. That is just something they legally have to do.
I recently moved to the Huntsville area from out of state and am trying to wade my way through the process of applying for an Alabama teaching license. I have my fingerprint cards from the Dept of Education, but I don’t know where to go to get my fingerprints taken in this area. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Go to Wheeler Ave. It is off the service road and runs parallel to the Parkway. Go down the street and I believe it's the third building on the right. Your fingerprints will cost $10.00 per card. Let me know if I can help further. I'm a native Huntsvillian and would be happy to chat. By the way, I'm looking for a summer school teacher for half to 3/4 day if you're interested. The job is either 2 or 5 days per week for K-1. Ronda

I am wondering what content area I should study for the most? I was told that there are only three to five grammar questions and that is what I have concentrated on the most. Please help!
Contact the retirement board in Montgomery and ask them.
