school paddling

Laura, I agree that paddling is a good deterrent all through school. I have taught and my wife is currently teaching .The amount of time spent dealing with disrespect,violence,lack of any learning,etc has increased ten fold over the years.We as a society are all self- centered "I have my rights!" loudly proclaims the student,lawyer,doctor,etc,etc,etc.What about repsecting the rights of others? I grew up without discipline.I can't number the times a paddling would have done me a world of good.I skipped two years of school,as I just didn't want to go.I was disruptive in class the point I never learned higher mathematics. Soon I will have my masters degree in education and I will not likely join the soliders on the fron line as they battle to be heard over the students and parents that want their rights.Sadly,where my wife works, most of those kids will join the welfare leagues or fill the prisons for a "career". georgian Now if there were studies done that actually prove that paddling has any merit, I would agree. But as far as I know they don't even discuss paddling in college programs for educators in their training or in their schoooling. Wonder why that is? Minorities and Disabled children are more often paddled than other subgroups. Is it o.k. for them to rece...See More

Studies actually show paddling does danage. the united states is the only country on gods green earth doing it and only in 21 states. look in the 29 states that don't paddle no dropout rates gradytion rates right at 100% and crime among school age kids next to nothing compare to states that do paddle. Are you arkansas people that stupid and blind? Obama wants to ban it Mccain to so what will you do then? It's so sad when college educated adults have to resort to a hunk of wood to teach kids. lose the mind set that you need to control the kids show them respect. forget being in charge just be a equal. if the principal came around and paddle teachers who were naughty would you teachers respect him? get your head out of your butt. I think anyone in the school should subject to a paddling. bet paddlings would come to end first. in other words teach by be willing to follow sdame rules and punishments. the law doesn't say anything about age when assualt is involved and thats what paddling is. a hunk of wood 2 foot long 6 inches wide and 1 and half inches thick is a weapon not a paddle. do you realize the federal goverment considers a paddle a weapon try walking in a airport on on a plane with one. so now teachers and principals can use weapons.

ouch, that hurts Tom: Though I agree with you about the use or misuse of corporal punishment, archaic and ineffectual, there are a number of countries worldwide whose school systems practice physical castigation and in some cases far worse than Arkansas principals and teachers.
