I work for a senior center and I was wondering if anybody could come out to teach classes? May be history, art, science, that sort of thing. I would like to find some one who could relate to seniors who are independant with a strong desire to keep a healthy and active mind. We are located in the Sun City Area.
With the 100's of thousand of teaching positions being cut in Texas, people are looking to get out. Are there teaching jobs in Arizona or is it as over saturated and completely dire as Texas?

I HATE TO BE SO NEGATIVE, BUT ARIZONA IS ONE OF THE WORST > STATES TO BE A TEACHER. NOT MUCH OF A UNION, PAY CUTS, AND MANY > DISTRICTS ARE DOING AWAY WITH TENURE. Anything to say about any districts in the west valley? I want the truth, no matter what. I've been working in my district for awhile and it's time for change.
Peoria Unified had a great reputation (I student taught there and live in the district), but there have been salary freezes of late. Glendale Union High School sometimes has openings and is a decent district--some schools are in low SES areas, but teaching conditions aren't as bad as in some districts. Dysart also has openings occasionally but its career ladder is ridiculous. It's an example of a district that grew too fast, too soon.
Before you think about moving, though, keep in mind that first year teachers in districts are always the first to be RIF'd. I've been pink slipped twice in the last four years (and I'm not new to teaching).
TiredTeacherIs there some reason you aren't naming the district?
