I just received a rather unfriendly message from a school district in Arizona, saying they could not consider me since I do not have a current Arizona license. I actually had an Arizona license before I moved to California and became certified in CA. I am planning on applying to a lot of different states, since I will work anywhere I can find a job. I thought I could use my California license to apply and then if hired I would, of course, change my certification to that state. However, am I wrong and I need to get certified before I even apply? I can't imagine spending so much money to be certified in states I may not even get a job. Can anyone offer some insight?
Thanks ...See MoreThank you for your responses. My certificate expired in February and I took at the AEPA tests except for the Arizona/US constitution requirement. I know it is easy to get certified in AZ so I was surprised they required this, knowing I had qualified before. I guess I will have to pay out another $150 or so and get it taken care of.
Thanks again. If anyone has any suggestions on places that have high turnover and need teachers often let me know.
Your fingerprints still good if so can you just start over with a new reciprocal provisional using your Ca. lic. if you take the AZ and US con you could go straight to provisional. HMMM I would just apply for Rec. prov. with fp card and CA. lic. and see what happens..

If you are retired or perhaps a teacher with summers off or self employed/work from home type & that sounds appealing to you, we could most likely work out a win/win situation to get you out of the stifling heat of summer there & vacation here where an A/C is RARELY if ever used. We have been married 40 yrs and are very stable, happy & upbeat. We are educated & we do not partake of any bad habits. My hubby has some health issues (heart & joint) but is completely ambulatory, it's just after all these years the cool damp seasons are getting to our psyche & his physical health. Our home is very clean, very inviting, lots of light, updated & modern. Our yard is full of mature trees & landscaping, the home was built in '73. It's on a quiet short street but close to everything. We have no problems with crime in our neighborhood so no worrying about sleeping with one eye open LOL. We have no problem sharing our space, we have been renting our two spare rooms out off & on for 5 yrs or so. We require only one room in a home & it doesn't have to be fancy, just clean & safe. You can bring your furry kids as our entire yard is fenced & there are tons of walking trails & a dog park close by. As well we would want to bring our small dogs with us to Texas. Ours are extremely socialized & happy campers like us. We lead a very simple easy going lifestyle, AKA quiet & boring :) If you've dreamed of getting away from there when the killer heat comes you wouldn't find a better place to head to & nicer people to accomodate you during your stay here. If you have time to browse, look at a website called 'Portlandbridges.com'. It will give you a glimpse into life here, the Pacific coast is an hour & a half away. If you love waterfalls, forests, mountains, rivers & streams this is the place to be!
My husband was just RIF'd. After 14 years, kicked to the curb. Is there anybody out there--advocates...been there done that...that can help with this transition? So many questions and no answers.

Many poor teachers were protected at my school and the pricipal and vice principal were so busy they had no idea what was going on. They hired a first year teacher as a replacement for me so money may have been an issue.

We spend the first week of each year talking about netiquette, plagiarism, and how to monitor your progress and determine what you need to do each day (e2020 has good tools for kids to do that int the progress bar and the assignment calendar). Distractions like iPods and cell phones are not allowed in class, just as we don't allow them in traditional class.
Cheating or "finding loopholes" is something we address right at the start, before kids even start their courses. We have a no tolerance policy, and every student signs an honor contract. If students are caught cheating in any way, we reset the entire course and they have to start again. Even if they're halfway through the course. We tell them this up front and remind them periodically. It's also posted on the walls: "If you cheat in your course, you're only cheating yourself. If you cheat, you will repeat."
But it all boils down to making your expectations clear and explicit and revisiting them regularly. Teach them what you want them to do and what you don't, and don't accept bad behavior
I am interviewing for a position at Bicentennial North in the Glendale School system. Is this a good school? I worked in the Osborn Schools and it was awful (to me)...is Glendale better?
Teaching on the rez means you are listed as exempt but still have to punch a time clock and get docked on your pay if you are even 5 minutes late no matter how far you drove to get there or how bad the weather is.
Teaching on the Rez means they can fire you to hire a Native teacher (Native preference).
Teaching on the Rez (if you are a white person) means dealing with the anti-white attitudes of the students, the parents, the other teachers, and the administration. Kids will call you names, tell you to STFU, act crazy, and no sending them to the office because they won't follow through. Native teachers can take your supplies and never pay you back.
Teaching on the rez (if you are white) means that despite all your efforts to learn their culture and language and be respectful and include their culture in your lessons, they will revile you, treat you like crap and make you feel very unwanted.
That's why i will NEVER teach on the rez again; despite the fact that I got the kids' test scores to go UP substantially while I was there.
If you want to make a difference; don't bother going to the rez with that in mind; it won't happen and you will leave feeling chewed up and spit out.

Does an endorsement involve taking more classes including a "practicum" (and in some districts, they pay a stipend), whereas the SEI is meeting the state's minimum requirement??

I guess it kind of depends on why you had a bad experience at Osborn. If it's because of the environment surrounding, then you won't like Roosevelt or Creighton. Alhambra - depends on where you go. I've heard it's difficult to get in there though.
