I'm in my last year of teaching and looking forward to retirement. That's the good news, the bad news is that my cert expires in January of 2013. Does the Dept. of Ed. have anything in place to extend my cert for six months? I'd rather not do all the paperwork and incur the expense of renewing for 6 years.
$28,000 per annum is a fairly low yet acceptable starting salary at Kingman High School in Kingman, Arizona; however, if medical insurance premiums are exorbitant, it may behoove one to stay far away from teaching in such a district. Can anybody inform me of the cost of medical coverage for one person at Kingman? Thank you.

I am so excited, and proud, to say that I am a Brand Partner for SnackHealthy where our #1 Income Earner is a former schoolteacher and mother of four sons. How wonderful is that?
Debbie Stein, our Top Income Earner, was able to leave a 20-year teaching career and make 3 times her teaching income! Not only is she the #1 Income Earner at snackhealthy, she is the National Trainer and takes great personal pride in introducing teachers – and all those in the educational field – to this incredible business opportunity and show them how the skills used in teaching are perfectly suited for a successful home-based business. Debbie is a delightful trainer who does not “sell” you, but rather provides basic information to see if snackhealthy is a right fit for YOU and your family!

I have a girl scout brownie troop with 8 girls. We have been trying for over a year to establish a pen pal relationship, but to date we have been unsuccessful . Please let me know if any one would like to be pen pals or if you have info to direct me in the right direction.
With what I'm about to ask, I know I could Google it or Bing it; actually, I already have. But, sometimes Internet searches can give very "generic" results, not always specific to your location.
I've been a teacher here in Arizona for 13 years. I went to college for an education major late in life, so, I was not of "typical" college age. Right now, my age is around the half-century mark.
I've about had it with the education field; sorry if that sounds harsh and negative, but, I'm not some young chippy who has barely given it the ole college try and is already throwing in the towel; I even had plenty of real-world working experience before I became an educator.
What are some good alternatives to teaching? Meaning: with my teaching (education) degree, what else can I go into? It can still be something within the education field itself, but, just not a typical, classroom teacher.
And, pay doesn't have to be strictly commensurate with teacher salaries; my wife works full-time and makes good money.
Perhaps it's like this elsewhere in the U.S.A., but with my experience here in AZ, support from administration is almost non-existent. Students (kids) have been "misbehaving" since formal education started, but, the way I've seen things for a while now, their extreme behavior is tolerated, even coddled. There are no real consequences for their behavior; no accountability on the student's part.
I've taught in the public school system as well as at a charter school.
Every job has its stress level, but, it is not a pleasure for me to go to work anymore; the stresses are taking too high a toll on my mental and physical health.
So.....anybody have any good, realistic suggestions for viable alternatives to a teaching career? Pez
In my over 30 years of teaching I've never seen a teacher on a cell phone in class ignoring students. I'm sure it happens but since it's so rare why start a movie out with that scene!
Love your comment about the mom never helping her struggling daughter and instead letting her watch TV. That's just about it in a nutshell. One more parent who wants the school to raise her child.
I can't make myself go see this just the trailers did it in for me. I'd walk out way to angry and not for the reason this movie wants

Yeah, I'd walk out angry too. Been there with the parent scene.
