Teachers, educate yourself and google what schools are giving much needed raises to teachers from Prop 123. It's about time we teach for the lettuce instead of a calling. Not sure about you, I have bills to pay and want to drive more than a Honda for all my hard work. It's about time!
I am trying to pass the NES subtest 1 and I am having a hard time passing can someone give me some advice on how to pass it I have taken it four times? Thanks
Hi Brenda, You should purchase the AEPA Elementary Education (01) Secrets Study Guide: AEPA Test. i would read it and record myself on a recorder to listen back to it. i would make note cards. I would give yourself a goal of 4 weeks later after reading it to take the test. It worked for me. Good luck.
I was offered three jobs and had about a dozen calls to come in for an interview.
Nothing happened to me with breaking a contract and nobody asked me why I left my last job.
I worked at a charter school in a very nice area and fell in love with everything but the low pay.
Why do you want to break a contract?
You will discover that your fears will be just that eventually.
Arizona is more than desperate for teachers if you want to stay in the profession.
Hang in there! Life is good

I am jumping back into teaching after a 20+ years of being self employed. I have to take the NES exams and have been studying like crazy. Not sure what to expect. Taking Early Childhood subject knowledge soon. Has anyone taken it lately and can give me a head's up on what to prepare for??
My teaching certificate expires in 3 months and I find myself short about 50 hours to renew as I took off some time. How can I get those hours and can they can me? I was told they only extend the certificate for provisional teachers.

HUGE NEW NEWS YOU ONLY NEED 90 HOURS TO RENEW A STANDARD LICENSE. GO TO ADE WEBSITE AND LOOK UNDER CERTIFICATION CHANGES!!!!!!!
Bring It to their attention which is the right thing to do. They may put you on an emergency certificate, or make some kind of amends at this point.
I was taken out of class twice for different reasons, and everything worked out in the end.
A severe shortage exists so there are still plenty of opportunities to teach in other areas if you are qualified.
I just started a new jo. I had so many offers that I was able to pick my dream job finally.
Good luck and have no fear !

I don't know if you "obviously can't be a middle school math teacher." After all, there is a long history of uncertified people teaching all kinds of subjects and math is one of the most glaring. With a "teacher shortage," which I keep reading about, that is crippling, the state may have allowances for unqualified teachers to teach a shortage subject.
It is voidable since you did not meet one of the requirements in the contract. However, it would be up to the district to void it. They may have to due to state law, or they may be able to get you an emergency cert, or simply have you work outside your certification.
You need to let them know so both they and you can make decisions about what you're going to do this school year.
Well, they gave us a 4 percent raise but taking a lot for monthly health insurance which amounts to about my car payment. Good one Dysart, I will be gone at the end of the year so you can spend money hiring someone else.
They do not contribute to the state retirement system. They may not offer adequate pay raises. They usually start at a much lower pay rate than public schools. They are usually data driven. They require a lot of extra time aside from normal school hours; meetings, school functions, IEP meetings that are convenient for parents. I could go on but be careful and get everything in writing. Ask if they are getting prop 123 funds and how much will be directed to you if any.
I work for a charter and LOVE it. Mine does contribute to the state retirement, and many do. I make more than some districts. Charters are plentiful in AZ so do not rule them out.

They also cover benefits and pay is on par with Mesa unified and Gilbert public schools. Yes, the year is longer than a public school but class sizes are smaller. At least it's not as bad as some of the other charter schools.

Jeez, if you don't want to do it, just say you don't have child care. In my experience, there are plenty of teachers willing and happy to help interview candidates over the summer. If you are worried about your $2.50 and not willing to help, then someone else will.
