GOOGLE ARIZONA TEACHER JOB BOARD AND TAKE NOTE OF CHARTER SCHOOLS THAT ARE OFFERING A SIGN ON BONUS. Be brave and ditch that job that you thought you had to keep because the economy was so bad.
Usually its only a couple of grand at most. Nice, but you also have to figure that schools have to offer signing bonuses for a reason and you may regret leaving your job long after that couple thousand is gone. Still, it is worth looking into.

Will not be until 2022 I think. California is way higher cost of living/housing in most areas apples and oranges..New Mexico pays teachers way better than AZ..
Take a peak at the Arizona Teachers job board. So many openings that you can look for a job with all the benefits you want. Take a risk and switch jobs now if your school is skimpy on a raise or benefits. You work too hard to settle for less.
Do it and if they say no, say you will look elsewhere... Phoenix Union pays decently... so do Tempe and Chandler Unified. There are also charter schools that pay better than any of the public school districts... but make sure they don't overwork you.
If you are thinking about your dream job and a move here, consider this: No unions Very Low pay - Some as low as 28K and you pay Insurance or half Lots of overtime with no pay. Principals may work you on spring break by making you attend meetings. No rights if you are accused of anything.

After teaching for two years, I have discovered that my local Sprouts can pay me almost as much as I make now and there is room for advancement. Society hates teachers in this generation. We are the scum of the earth and make pennies. My certificate will be tossed in May. No more evaluations and hours making lesson plans on my dime.

To g...See MoreI feel sad when I read posts like this. It is unfortunate that Western society values education so poorly. So many people are offered a free education and they waste the opportunity. To think there are many places in this world where people cannot get an education and here in North America who can do not properly take advantage of it.
To get better results, we need to pay teachers well so they will stay motivated and not want to leave the profession. Also, we need more resources and less demands upon their time so they can properly educate their students.
What we do not invest in now children, always costs society more later on.

I believe striking is illegal in AZ. There's something about it in the state constitution.
Thinking about leaving with zero notice. Paycheck does not pay student loans and my expenses. Waiter friends of mine make double the money without all the headaches.
