If anyone is interested, Nationwide Insurance in Scottsdale is now paying $15 an hour (new minimum wage) for jobs....not much less than a new teacher salary in the area.
We just had a second instructor leave without notice due to low pay and unfair working conditions. We need representation in this state and better conditions. My last year as I am having a baby and child care will take out most of my paycheck.

Was this a public school or charter / private? Do charter schools pay better than public schools here in AZ?

ASU Preparatory Academy (in both Phoenix and East Mesa) has several openings for next year. They do cover health and dental benefits (100&37; for the employee) and they offer tuition remission from ASU, NAU, and U of A, and decent pay. To see the openings, go here: [link removed].

I just can't afford to stay here anymore with no union, benefits, or the possibility of a decent raise. I hate Arizona and the cheap school systems here. Making 33K only.

$33K? That's criminal! Wow. Do you work at a public school or private? According to the job postings, the ASU Prep school starts teachers off at $38,190.00 and claim a salary range up to $60,000.00 / Per Year. That's a lot for AZ and I wonder if that's true?

Yes, teachers will be able to negotiate contracts this year as schools will be crawling for any teacher who holds a valid certificate. Hold out for the highest offer as there are many schools still holding out for instructors who will work for 30K.
Yes, it's true that there will be a record amount of contracts in March and April. Charter schools offering sometimes only 30K and charging for insurance and no pension opportunities. Many teachers lucky to make even 40K after working for nearly ten years.
