Be careful when you interview and ask plenty of questions. I liked a previous post about retention. There are some schools that replace teachers constantly. Ask how long teachers in your interview grade level have been teaching and why the last teacher left the position that you may be filling. I would say that retention is a big problem. It's common sense that if teachers are not staying then there are issues at that school that you may want to avoid.
Carla The school I worked for did not try to keep teachers. I don't want to name the school. It was a problem because there was nobody to go to for problems or issues that were historical in nature. Needless to say, I found out why teachers were leaving and I don't work there anymore.
