Hi

I am a newly certified elementary teacher...I have doctorate in education so needless to say, it is not easy finding a job...looking at the new hires in some districts (of course those that don't know someone who got them the job) I am being looked over for newly certified individuals with a Bachelor's and certification because of the payrate.

Anyways, at this point a preschool teacher position looks like it is going to be a job I am offered. My concern is whether or not it will count as teaching experience (which was the reason I was told I did not get the job in the few districts I did interview with). It is a teacher position and there are ~20 kids in the class with a head teacher and teacher assistant.

So...when I try again to apply for elementary positions, does this particular preschool setting going to give me the experience that schools are looking for? I have tried for long term sub positions and para positions to try and at least get into a dis...See More
Jenn It shouldn't, as long as you want to work in the K-2 environment. If you're looking for experience with higher grade levels you might want to try private/parochial schools.

Kate Hi Kelly, I'm sure what you are experiencing is frustrating. Have you tried applying in some more affluent school districts in CT? I know the district that I work in hires a lot of master's candidates without blinking an eye, and I can't see it being all that much different for a Phd.
