I live and teach in Washington DC. I've researched The
Teacher Next Door program and (other than the program
description on-line) I can't seem to find any real info on
it. I need a good realtor who specializes in this program,
hopefully one who's helped other teachers acquire property
with it before.

Also, is there anyone who's already bought property this
way, who's also happy with it? From what I can find, it
seems like there's a catch to it...teachers are supposed to
be able to buy in the same area where they teach, but the
properties are only in disadvantaged areas. So if you teach
in a good neighborhood (as I do in NW DC), you're forced to
move "next door" to a much worse neighborhood farther away
from school. I'm beginning to wonder if this program is
just another government crock of s---. Please reply if you
have any info. Thank you!!

should re-read the program discription, for the program is
designed to revitalize run-down areas. If the area where you
work in NW D.C. is prominent, then more than likely it does
not qualify as needing revitalization. If you ...See More

There is such a large need for teachers, and this program,
although sounds great, doesn't offer that many options. For
example, I live in Las Vegas, NV. When I spoke to someone
about how to purchase an HUD home, that person advised me
that there hasn't been a HUD home available since 2005.
Currently, it'...See More

Why would she put her personal email address here? This is ...See More

i know a gal in denver who did it and she's pretty happy. you are correct in that the rule - that the house must be in the district in which you works- completely exempts many teachers bcs there may not be a single "revitalization" area in their school district.

The gal in Denver DID tell me however,...See More
