Documentation! Hopefully you've been keeping very good records of the student's behavior, with dates/times. If not, start now. Has the student been referred to Schhol Based Team? I know some teachers have gotten the "union" involved if they are members and if they feel threatened by the student. Good luck!
Are charter schools better to teach at compared to the regular public schools? Which charter schools would be the best to apply to. I am reluctant to apply at charter schools in general as I do not know a lot about any and don't know of anyone who has worked at a charter school. Any suggestions......
My experience with charters is just based on teachers who worked at charters then came to public schools. They have told me of being mandated to staffing after/before school programs and being moved into departments that they didn't start out in, because of vacancies.
However, many beginning teachers get their start in charters then make the move to public.
I can't say I have ever spoken to a teacher who absolutely loved working at a charter school.

My kids found this math game online. They get to be a ninja that searches for numbers to fill in problems. (Problems with missing numbers) It's called Number Ninja and has about 5 or 6 different types of math. [link removed]
Does anyone have information about this place. They have positions posted and was wondering if this is a good place for teachers and how are they connected to the public school system - if at all?
DebbieI have never heard of them; where in Florida is this?

It shows them listed in a couple of counties. Duval, Broward, Orange, Hillsborough, and Lee.

Does anyone know how the new legislation will change the requirements for remediation classes? Will students who score level one or two in math and reading still be required to take remediation course work?
I haven't posted to this website in quite some time. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with working in education, especially here in FL. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with working in education, especially here in FL. Thankfully, I am at the point that I can retire, but I feel for the young people that I leave behind. The state of Florida could not have done a better job of setting up educators to FAIL this year, than if they did it deliberately. The new AIR testing has many of us very concerned as to how well our students will do on it. The FSA writing test is so very different than what our kids are used to doing, but we struggle along, hoping that somehow citing texts and making counter-claims will sink in. I know the math teachers at my school are freaking out about the FSA for middle school math. To top it all off, our school district (Polk)has not made smart decisions this year, either. Since our district's file servers were decrepit and ready to die, the board decided to buy a line of pure manure from a major software company and have our network completely connected to their 'cloud.' Their 'cloud' must be connected to a thunderstorm because it freezes our computers, won't connect you to the internet OR intranet most of the time, gives a wide variety of error messages constantly, and even turns your Power point presentations into a one-slide show because it freezes the presentation. To say that our teachers are frustrated is an understatement. To make matters worse, our district administration does not want ANY student to fail or get even a D average! Teachers now have to create work packets for lazy ne'er-do-wells who had 9 weeks to get a passing grade, but decided not to. If the kid only does a small fraction of the work in the packet, we've been 'encouraged' to turn a blind eye to it, and automatically give them a "C" average. The other name for this is "Let's screw the students who work hard to get better than average grades, and let's punish teachers for honestly grading the dregs." This has been the 'last straw' for me. In June, I will complete 41 years in a career I USED to love. BTW, someone told me that this 'grade recovery' BS is STATE LAW! Is this true?!
I agree with common core being govt led. I disagree with money doesn't buy a good education. That's why I don't think education for profit is a good idea.

Hello, I am just graduating from a university in Ontario with an HBASc/BEd. I would like to re-locate to Florida (preferably the Keys area). Any advice on the easiest way to do this?
I'm being general here....what is the elementary teaching job market like in this area? Lots of openings or few, etc.? Currently teach in AZ and I always hear how horrible it is to teach here (haven't taught in any other state) but at least openings are not hard to find....thanks!
