A...See MoreI just took the ESOL tests and felt the practice tests were fairly indicative of what to expect. I also used a practice book from XAM (purchased through Amazon) and course notes/texts. Just be aware that the XAM guides may be somewhat outdated. The study guide included a constructed response which is no longer included for the ESOL test.
Also, you may want to see if someone has already created questions for your test on Quizlet. I found Quizlet handy to use during down times (waiting in line, etc.).

I have been a teacher in NC for 7 years. I have always loved GA and I am looking for a change. I was wanting some insight to teacher conditions in GA. TIA

Until recently it was great! Now, with the TKES program most now hate their jobs.
I just got a job this past school year, after graduating in 2009. I hate it! My admin is horrible, mean, nasty woman. Fellow teachers are back stabbers. The kids are aweful!

O...See MoreAre you getting paid to babysit? If so, it technically is.
That said: you probably can get away with it if the people who are paying you are close to you. I wouldn't do it if you're going through an agency and will be getting a paycheck or 1099. If it's family or close friends who will be paying cash, then you're probably fine.

2015-2016 contracts will be handed out soon. I do not plan to return to my present county but have not secured a job for next year yet. If I go ahead and sign the contract with my present school system, do I have a certain amount of time in which without penalty I can void the contract OR will I be bound to the contract if I sign it?
If you teach for Georgia Virtual School or Georgia Cyber Academy, does that teaching experience count toward your retirement. Do many teachers work for these virtual schools full time?
I can't speak for the others, but Georgia Connections Academy has full-time teachers that pay into TRS just like a public school teacher. GACA is an online, public, K-12 charter school in its 4th year of existence and it's getting bigger and better every year!
It's a great place to work and, as we're growing every year, there are frequently job postings for our school.
I am an English teacher currently teaching SpringBoard, and I am getting sick of it. I am trying to find the names of counties that give English teachers some freedom to be creative in how they teach. In other words, I am looking for places that have not adopted curricula like SpringBoard or the units created by the GA Education Dept. I want to be able to create and use my own materials to teach the standards, not have materials provided for me. If you know of such a place, please pass it along to me. Thanks!
