I am look for advice. I am very interested in teaching art. I have a B.S.in Graphic Design. How does the Alternate route work , what do I need? Do I need to go and talk to someone . I have search and I not really sure what I need to do, Because there million website it sends to me and they all say something different.
Go to gapsc website. Ga professional standards commission is the agency that licenses teachers. You will find details on becoming a teacher on their website.
I see that no one has responded. I got my teaching degree in Indiana. I came back to Georgia. Each state has their own requirements. Please contact your state Department of Education and they can contact you. It might even be on their website. Usually you send in your information and they will tell you what you need to do in order to teach (take certain classes, etc.)
They ALWAYS go through culture shock. Enough said (Georgia does not have a Teacher Union). One of our Speech Pathologists decided to move back to Minnesota after 3 years!
But I have definitely heard good things about Gwinnett. Decatur City and Marietta City are much smaller counties that have a good reputation. I have not heard much about the other counties.
I was really impressed with DeKalb County when I began in 1995. But people have retired and an entirely different crew is in charge now. I guess that the best times are when you just begin a job. Please let me know if you do decide to come south! Good luck!
I'll be taking my Early Childhood I (Reading and Social Studies) test in 1 week and I have not studied nor do I have any background in Education (switching careers with my Bachelor's). Any suggestions? Tips? Helpful study guides? Topics I should focus on?

I am a former teacher and have a ton of classroom items for sale - scissors, bulletin board borders, books, games, posters, paper, crates and so much more!
Please contact me if you are interested in taking a look. I live in Brookhaven (Atlanta), GA.
