The UoP courses I took were SPE-506, 512, 521, and 531. I don't remember which name goes with which course, but the courses were Sped Methods, Sped Assessment, Characteristics of Learning Disabilities, and Characteristics of DD/MR. Those match up exactly with what ISBE requires.
If I just keep it registered in the last county/ROE I worked in (Tazewell) and then come back to IL, I won't have to take classes to go active again will I?
I'm enrolling in school in the fall to become a teacher in Illinois. This is a career change for me. Does anyone know of any resources that I can use to try to get some funding for tuition?
You will need to apply for another initial certificate since you don't have your 4-years in yet. Being that you're out of state, you can do that direct through ISBE.
If you're teaching in another state, that experience can count...
Don't bother spending money on college for a teaching certificate. There are no teaching jobs in Illinois, especially for new teachers. Do your research and go to college for a degree in a field in which you may find a job in upon graduation, such as finance, nursing, or computer science.
No one can give you perfect advice here. You really need recommendation letters to apply, but that entails telling your boss you're looking. Bad situation. You know your boss better than anyone on this site. If he/she is the kind who would take it badly that you're looking for another job, then you should probably keep it quiet. If they're sensible, and might understand the long commute is a reason to look, then maybe take a shot. It's impossible to know for sure, but if he/she is known for holding petty grudges, you might not want to let them know.
Now, I would at least wait on telling them until the dead-line has passed in your district for non-rehires. Unless it's longer by union contract, it is 45 calendar days before the end of the school year by Illinois School Code. This is likely coming up soon if it hasn't already passed.
If they can't get rid of you this year, then it gives you a full school year to try and ingratiate yourself again...
Does anyone know what classes qualify for a social science endorsement? Obviously history classes, but what about anthropology, ethics, poly sci or civics? Thanks for your input.
