Ah, I guess I should have also mentioned the highly qualified aspect. While you would be properly certified to teach sped classes, you also need to be highly qualified in the subject. Now, this is actually not all that hard to do. If you've never taken a math class, well, you're not going to be highly qualified in math, but it does not require a major to be HQ in a subject. You may be hq in several subjects and not even know it.

Actually, at the high school level, this is where people with LBS I endorsements find themselves valuable. Special ed majors aren't usually HQ in many subjects at the High School level, so LBS I type 09s come in handy to teach an LD math course, for instance.
