Ive been warning for years that teaching is heading in the same direction the citizens in this country allowed the private sector to become: unavailable or unaffordable healthcare, no pensions, no raises but more work, maybe five sick days and one or two weeks paid vacation. For the next 30 years or so, public schools will be replaced by charters. Then, after the profiteers have sucked out all of the public money, our policy makers will come out of the closet to tell us the public education is socialism (which it is) and socialism is evil (which it is unless you need medical care in your own age or want to visit a beautiful park or library). Of course, they also will prove it's evil by pointing out that free public ed doesnt work because, if it did, we would have had 100 percent of our students meeting uniform standards. You get what you -- or the corporations -- pay for when it comes to policy and societal economics.
