We are a different postcard exchange than the one posted below. We are a Kindergarten/first grade postcard exchange. We need Kansas! First one to email me gets it! :) [email removed]
Baker University offers a Master's Degree in Education via cohort. They bring the program to you if you are not near their campus in Overland Park. Has anyone gone through this program? Can you tell me what you thought?
That's a pretty difficult, if not impossible-to-answer question. Kansas has such a variety of school districts. Parts of western Kansas have very different needs that metro KC / Wichita, Lawrence, etc schools. If you could be more specific about what part of KS you're interested in you could probably get some informative pointers on job seeking. Good luck !
I am an El Ed major and am interviewing for a position at SHawnee Mission School District. I would be an hourly employee working 200 days as an English Language Learner Aide. My question is, what do people in these type of positions do for pay during winter and spring breaks and also summer? Would I just go without pay? Someone said that I'd qualify for unemployment in the summer, any input? Woul i get paid time off or vacation days to use throughout the year?

Hourly employee means that you are not paid for school breaks. I don't know any aids that take unemployment in the summer. Check the district. You will have sick leave and personal days.
Many aids have second jobs and/or summer jobs to supplement their pay.
A week ago I saw on an educational job site that Wichita schools badly needs ESL teachers. I e-mailed my relevant materials to HR and have heard nothing back. Is this normal? Thanks, Sammy

Did you complete the online application? The procedure for job application is on this page. Good luck.
All the bureaucracy: The endless forms, etc. I have, modestly speaking, an excellent background in teaching ESL, bilingual, etc. The place should be champing at the bit to get me. I sent two inquiries to Wichita and two unanswered calls to Liberal after the asst. super sent me an inquiry.
Thanks, Honi. Sammy Johnson

Honi, just as I was throwing in the towel, I got a message on my answering machine from HR in Garden City, KS. Know anything about the place and the school system.
The reason I was not hearing back from these school depts in Kansas was that I had not filled out this simple form. I sent them well-written cover letters and current resume but no responses. I filled out that simple form and voila... I will be flying into Kansas City then hopping on a flight to Garden City. I am staying one night only. I have the interview the day I arrive. Garden City has a problem with recruiting and retaining qualified teachers most likely due to geographic position but that is just a guess. There is a fair number of Hispanic students there. HR contaced me directly by phone. I had not applied directly to GC schools. I will let you know what transpires...
Keep in touch, Sammy

I am a graduate student at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi. I am conducting research for my master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, specializing in math. Specifically, I created a survey regarding the role of virtual manipulatives in today's mathematics classroom. I am in the process of distributing this survey to as many mathematics teachers as possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Below is a direct link to the survey:

PLEASE forward this e-mail on to any teachers you know who are currently teaching mathematics-- elementary, middle, or high school. With your help, I hope to receive results from all over the country.
Any help you can provide in publicizing this survey is greatly appreciated.
