I am from Colby but have family and friends in Hays, KCK and Wichita. Do you know of training for BAL A VIS X anywhere close to one of those? (Bal a vis x is a brain/brain-body integration program by a middle school teacher from Wichita.)

This past year I utilized the four block reading framework in my classroom and LOVED it. I was wondering how many 4- blockers we have here in Kansas and do you like it?

Actually, I became interested in it from teacher websites on the net. I bought the teachers guide to 4 blocks myself and the school allowed me to attend a workshop. I knew this was something I wanted to do and have since purchased most of the materials myself. I teach in a K-4 special education room but I team teach in the first grade room with the lowest group. If you are not using the 4 blocks approach and are teaching in a K - 4 classroom, even upper grades too, then I would highly recommend it.
Sorry to intrude--I actually teach in MO--but I live in KS and am interested in educational issues here as well.
Ive used pieces of 4 blocks in the past and am this year going full-blown! I took the summer off to do research and planning, and can't wait for school to start! I teach fifth grade and the experiences Ive had with it have been very successful, even in the upper grades!

Looking for good online professional development courses? Try these. Inexpensive, with great lessons for the classroom. You'll love them; 6 weeks; 30 inservice credit hours.
will be posted on the building report card on line? I am playing with a building web page and have a link to that site but the new scores are not listed yet.
From the left menu, go down to "popular topics" and then click on "building report cards." The new ones are not there yet, but they provide an email link for questions. You may use that email link to find out when the new report cards will be online!

Here's a public invitation for application to the IndiVisual/Hewlett-Packard 'Read for Life' scholarship. I feel this is important to share with the public and hopeful you will help the spread the word with teachers and schools administrators about this great scholarship opportunity to help struggling readers.
The 'Read for Life' scholarship consists of a wireless mobile reading lab complete with 5 Hewlett-Packard laptop PCs complete and 3 years unlimited student-use of IndiVisual Reading ($25,000 value). Another plus with this scholarship is the fact that Dr. John Manning, a former president of the International Reading Association, is the author/advisor behind the IndiVisual Reading program. The scholarship is available to any public, private, parochial or charter school within the United States.
I teach in Leavenworth, not too terribly far from Northern KCK...we are actually a pretty good district to work for...I'm sure there will still be some open positions...might want to check it out.
