Mel - I am assuming that you are the "Mel"/BD teacher I have chatted with on Tnet in the past. If so, some things to tell you : 1) At the end of this semester, I will receive my uncertified BA degree in secondary education/social studies. I chose to not student teach mainstream social studies because the only students I can truly communicate with and be effective with are BD students. 2) I already have nine hours toward my masters BD ED degree, and I will officially be in the masters program at UMKC in the winter semester. 3) My first masters course in the winter will most likely be in Olathe with severe self-contained elementary students (practicum). 4) Last, but certainly not least, I have heard two completely different answers that could effect my special ed. career. On one hand, the head of the masters program says that unlike KCMO, Kansas will only give me my temporary certification when I am within 9 hours of completing my masters. On the other hand, I have spoken to several long- time Kansas BD teachers who have all told me that Kansas will give me my BD temporary certification with 9 hours toward my masters. Any information you might have regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated!
