I am just wondering how tight the market is. In most districts here in Houston, you fill out the online app, even go to the job fairs, but unless you make face-to-face contact (best way anywhere) your application isn't even looked at. Based on job fair attendance, I would guess there are at least 100 applicants for every opening. I have even heard that some districts hire almost exclusively from their sub lists (great if you can do that, but not so great if you're single and need a steady, if low, income and medical benefits). Is it that tight in the outlying parishes? (If I do make this decision, I will go in either during my spring break, March 16-20, or early June to drop off resumes and possibly meet principals.)
Before I make any decisions, I would like to know more about how competitive it is in the area.
I see there are not too many postings on this site but I hope someone could help me. I will be moving into the Kenner area next school year (09- 08). I wanted to know what are your thoughts about the middle/high schools in Kenner, La? How many magnet programs are there?
I found a little bit of information about a few of the schools but I wanted to know from those that are there on a daily basis.
So it is my understanding that the entire state of Louisiana has subscribed to the Harcourt StoryTime ELA. I'm a 3rd Grade teacher in St Mary Parish and we have not gotten all of our materials yet. Still no level readers! What do you think?
Hi everyone. I'm a first year teacher in Texas and I'm teaching 2nd grade. I plan on relocating to Shreveport next summer because I have family in the area...I know this probably seems early, but I'm just curious to learn about the Shreveport job market for elementary school teachers. Any info you could give me would be great. Thanks!

The manufacturing company for which I work has as a production by product, paper by the roll including brown kraft paper of different weights, heights and lengths (some rolls up to 1000 feet or more). Also white paper the same including card stock and poster board by the roll. This is in Northwest Louisiana. We also have a limited amount of yellow at times. It's a goldenrod (LSU gold) yellow. We also have some fabric (loosely woven muslin), typar and tyvek.
Please contact me for any interest. I have had two paper giveaways at my home in Minden. Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept 20, I have accumulated 135 various rolls for my great paper giveaway. I post these on Freecycle.org.
Our plant sends this stuff to the landfill. I rescue as much as I can and give it away to teachers, schools, clubs, churches, etc.

I am allowing my students to design their own quilt and I would love to have any paper, any color to make papers with. I would greatly appreciate if you had any paper at this time.
Thanks, Tanya

What was your experience like? I'm currently in another state, how would the principals conduct an interview? Would they expect you to come in or would they do one over the phone?
