Should I bother becoming a teacher?

I hold a BA in Psychology and am ready to start a master's program in Elementary Ed. After reading many posts on this site, I am starting to second guess my career path. It appears there aren't many jobs out there. If you had it to do over again, would you become a teacher?

Jaron HM Despite being an umemployed M.Ed. graudate, I would discourage you from being an Elementary teacher. However, you should realize that regardless of the state of the economy, jobs market in elementary education are very tight. Unless you are willing to become certified to teach English language learners, special education, or both, you may struggle ...See More

Other Options Have you considered starting out in more remote areas of the state or New England region? Have you looked at private and parochial schools in your area?

Career Changer I'm glad I made a career change to teaching. I got a job as soon as I finished student teaching and am now a step 3 making over $48k. Since I worked part-time when my own kids were young, the "extra" money I've made teaching in the last few years has more than paid for the master's program I used to get certified.
