"A schools superintendent in Massachusetts has reversed a ban on pens and pencils, saying the teachers who made the new rule don't have the authority."

Presuming there's any truth whatsoever to the story, then it's good that the school administration and district intervened.

What kind of bone-heads come up with such nonsense?! Whatever happened to actually disciplining students who do things they're not supposed to be doing (like using writing instruments inappropriately)? Have we not learned from history and life in the real world that merely banning something doesn't make people stop using that something or (in this case) using that something inappropriately?

Oh, and what is this "we feel" nonsense (see the letter included in the link)? Maybe that's the problem: these teachers were feeling instead of thinking!
