I have a question about the Massachusetts preliminary license. I am currently living out of state and have about 6 years of teaching experience at the University level and at the secondary school level as a teaching artist and sub, including writing curriculum to standards. I have a PhD but no teaching certificate. I am thinking of moving back to MA with my family and was going to try and get the preliminary license in English.

My question is this: is the preliminary license just as attractive to a school as an initial license, or at least, closely so? Would a candidate with my teaching experience and degree and a preliminary license still be pretty much ignored in favor of those with an initial license?

Does that make sense? Basically I want to know if its worth it to pay to take the tests and get the license or if its really not going to make a difference until I take a formal educator preparation program?

Thanks!

In hard to fill areas like ESL, sped, and science, they are not as picky. G That's what I was afraid of hearing, of course. Thanks for the response!
