Hello All,

I am currently working as a full time special education teacher. I hold a Preliminary license in Moderate Disabilities (prek-8). My license will expire in 2016. My Bachelors is in Early Childhood Education and will complete my Masters in Dec for Moderate Disabilites. I originally entered my Masters program in the Initial licensure program but now they want me to do 300 hrs of student teaching. I find it odd that I have been teaching sped full time for 3 years and now have to do student teaching! My question is if I simply go the non- licensure route and just obtain my Masters in Moderate Disabilities will that be sufficient enough to renew my license in 2016 as initial? I can't leave my classroom for 300 hrs to student teach!! Thanks
Jarod HM If you are currently teaching in a Moderate Special needs classroom, you should be able to do your student teaching as a part of your current placement. That's what Boston College let a number of my colleagues do when I was there doing my initial for French. You will need to have documented teaching related to the new license for the initial.

Jarod HM Hey, Nicole. Were you able to work out your situation?
