I have a PH.D. in History. It's not just the bad academic market; I should have gone the education route and would rather teach high school.

Is there any point going for a preliminary license (Boston area) in a field as low demand as History/ Social Studies?

If not, might I have a shot if I went through an initial licensure program first -- or does the Union pay scale for a doctorate price me out of this market perpetually?

Jarod H-M I could see you getting a job in one of the urban districts with just the preliminary license, but it would mostly likely be in a school that have been hard to staff so they are desperate for someone, potentially replacing someone after the school year has started.
