My husband and I are both teachers in Brooklyn, NY and are trying to relocate to Maine (Portland or south). I teach 2nd grade and he is an elementary art teacher. I was just wondering if anyone could give us an idea of what the current hiring atmosphere is like right now. Do you get less preference if you are out-of-state? Any job search tips? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you, Megan
Nancy I moved here with a teaching degree from NJ. Here in Maine, they make you take the teachers' exam again, regardless of your experience. THEN, you have to be "mentored" for 2 whole years (once you get a school that will hire you with the provisional certificate you get after the test). Elaine Just a simple question. Did you research the process before deciding to move here? No offense, but I have lived and paid taxes here all my life.
