NUL exists to prove that with the foundation of an excellent college-preparatory education, Detroit children can graduate from high school, enroll in competitive four- year colleges and universities, graduate from college and positively impact change in Detroit. NUL manages the University YES Academy Schools, a high-performing, college- preparatory district. Job Description All teaching faculty assume professional responsibilities for creating and maintaining a culture of achievement that develops in each student the skills, attitude and knowledge to meet and exceed the standards of being college-ready. As a reform-minded organization, we know that it takes excellence in teaching and learning to move the needle on student achievement. Thus, more than anything, we are committed to finding teachers who go above and beyond, who roll up their sleeves, who are willing to admit what they don’t know and are proactive in addressing gaps, and who view the opportunity gap as a civil rights issue that must be addressed. We are looking for teachers who are not scared by a challenge, who are on their feet, and who hear the call to aid in Detroit’s transformation.

The qualified candidate for a position as a High School teacher will have knowledge of the common core standards in their content area, be able to analyze and effectively use student data to inform teaching and learning, will have experience in the classroom, is able to collaborate with other core content areas to understand how their lesson plans and aims will align with other subject areas, and will be able to effectively engage students in coursework and projects to enhance their learning.
