Received an email today that NCDPI is looking for teachers to write/edit EOG/EOC/etc. assessments. Do any of you know if this is a PAID gig or do they only want volunteers? Also, do you know if it can be done online or does the teacher have to go to Raleigh? Thanks for any information you might could share about this!

To all my educator friends and family, please contact Sen. Burr of NC NOW! We only need one vote to block Betsy Devos, who is totally anti-public education!!!!!!
Sen. Burr of NC is on the fence about voting yes in the Committee vote on Betsy Devos. We only need ONE Republican to block her - Democrats have all committed to vote no.
So spread the word!

They said this, "That's probably a hyperbolic generalization. Are we ever going to calm down and try to have a sane country again?". If we are not sane, we must be insane.
logicalityHyper-testing is a joke. It simply a mechanism of punitive control and reward to buddies who support campaigns. It's an expensive mistake that should not be tolerated by taxpayers. Teachers are quite capable of assessing teachers as they did for decades. Stop the waste, torture, and insanity.
I am thinking about moving to the Raleigh area from Craven county. I am an EC teacher with 11 years experience and have had excellent administration and support, just need a change. Is Wake county a support school district for EC? Any schools to avoid? Thanks!

Buncombe County is beautiful (in the mountains of WNC but expensive to live in). I don't know if they have openings at the moment but I have gotten the impression that they are supportive based on the interactions I have had.
December 14, 2016 *H16-v-1* 1 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 2 AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO PROVIDE A ONE-TIME, HOLIDAY BONUS TO 3 TEACHERS AND STATE EMPLOYEES. 4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 5 SECTION 1.(a) There is created the Holiday Bonus Compensation Fund (Bonus 6 Fund) to provide a one-time compensation bonus in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000), 7 payable January 31, 2017, to teachers and to State employees subject to the State Human 8 Resources Act.
Since we are salaried employees, and our typical workday runs something like 7:30-3:30, with most elementary schools releasing around 2:30, your planning period would be after the students left until 3:30 for your "duty-free" time. Your planning period is time without students, and that time fits the description. I know because I am a music teacher that has gone without a planning period of their own during the instructional day, and this is what we were told. The time after the students left was when I could do my planning. And what I would be REALLY worried about is where they think they are going to put all of these classes since they will not be providing additional funding to build more classrooms.

Check-in/Check out is used with the students who continually have behavior issues. A student is referred for check in/check out by the teacher, the parent has to sign permission....The student checks in with a staff member who is assigned the check in/check out position (in my case it was the music teacher) upon arrival to school. The student gets a sheet that he/she has to take with him throughout the day. Sort of like a behavior contract. The student's day is broken down on the sheet with the daily schedule: recess, lunch, math, specials, etc. and then there is a break-down of four or five desired behaviors (listened to the teacher, stayed on task, keeps hands to himself, etc.) After the scheduled time the teacher circles a 2, 1, or 0 for how the student did during that time and with the behaviors. (It sounds like a lot, but it literally only takes a few seconds for the teacher to complete....). At the end of the day the student goes back to the check in/check out teacher with his report who counts up his points. Usually the goal is 85&37;. If the student meets his goal, he is given a prize/or it could be a sticker on a chart that goes towards a prize once a larger number of points are attained. The student takes his report home and gets it signed by his parent and returns it the next day to the check in/check out teacher who then gives him a new sheet for that day. At my school of 550 students there were probably about 20 students on the program. It's an important part of PBIS so I'm surprised you haven't heard of it....It did wonders for most of the students, but, of course, not for all. Hope this helps!

Thanks! I have a feeling there are several pieces of the puzzle that we may be missing. I appreciate this information.
