Yesterday the principal at my school informed me (not asked) that I would be teaching a class for 3 hours on Fridays every week this semester losing my planning block without compensation. She claims that I have an hour before school to make up for missed planning. This time is meeting times built into our schedule that ever teacher is required to attend and is not guaranteed planning. My understanding is that she cannot do this without my consent. Does anyone know? I have called my "union" advocate but they are out of office now and it's really bothering me that the principal would do this without asking.
Jeff 115C-301.1 This part of NC general statutes prevents a principal from doing this. Feel free to look it up to see the exact wording. At my school, some teachers have agreed to give up their planning to help out when a need arose but guess what, they also got paid for it! Good Luck

ncmath19 Well I guess it no longer matters to anyone about this statute. PENC refuses to fight for me to get compensated for my planning and of course the human resource department won't help either. Watch out. Apparently if you have only one prep it's excusable to do this according to the reasoning I was given. Too bad they have a highly effective math tea...See More
