Hello! I am a senior in college studying to be a special education teacher. I was supposed to student teach from February-May, but due to a lot of family issues I was unable to qualify to student teach and instead I am doing an internship in the school system. In order to fund my education, I've received a forgivable loan (FELS) from the NCSEAA. The program rules state that you need to graduate with a bachelors in an approved education program (special ed is an approved program) and then secure a qualified position with a license. When I graduate, I plan to take all of the licensure exams that I need to get my license (had I student taught, those are the exams I would've needed to pass). I am then going to apply for my lateral entry license.

I'm extremely confused about a couple of things.

4moreyears You say you couldn't qualify for student teaching last semester -- why not do that next fall? Or would you still fail to qualify?

Going in as a full-fledged teacher (instead of lateral entry) will make it easier for you to find a job and will better prepare you for the job.

Snowgal17 What classes are you taking to replace the student teaching? Usually, Senior II is a 10 credit class needed for graduation. I am thinking that the reason that Lateral Entry is not counted is that you have a provisional license until the Lateral Entry requirements are cleared.
