It was suggested to me to take the Praxis P-3 to obtain a CE to make me more desirable to a district. I do not know if I should go for it or not. First with a CE I then put myself in a position to take grad courses in P-3 ed courses if I in fact get a position. Then I think I would love to teach however, I love teaching Art, which is what I really want to do. Then I think a foot in a district is great. Then I think there are so many people looking for a teaching position K-5 who hold a CEAS in K-5 why in the world would I get the job over them? Any opinions? Suggestions? What would make me more marketable or desireable over the hundreds of other applicants?
The Elementary Ed Praxis is pretty easy. You just need to know what a student would learn up to sixth grade. There was very little methodology on the exam.
I read in the paper that the camera at Prince St. & Rt. 1 generated 14,800 tickets. At $85 each, that's a whopping 1.25 million dollars!!! That's not even counting the camera down further at Plainfield Ave. where the ticket is around $125. I wonder where those funds go.
I really could use some advice and someone to point me in the right direction. I will even pay someone to help me. I currently am an unemployed teacher in NJ. I taught 2 years already in Hawaii. I moved back to NJ last year and still cant find a job. I want to become highly qualified and take more praxis test to expand my credentials. I am currently CEAS in Elementary school teacher K-5, and Students with disabilities. How do I know what other certification and licenses I can get. Basically, I am looking to call someone that can go over my transcripts with me and tell me what else i can do to get more qualified. Is there and advisor in the NJ education dept. I just want some real help, I feel like i am doing it wrong. Thank you. God Bless.

If you do you have left voluntarily and you don't get unemployment. If your contract isn't renewed and you cannot get another position by September, you can file for unemployment.

I have seen many jobs go to people already in the district, or to people who know people in the district. I am looking for a way to make me stand out from the hundreds of other resumes districts receive when they are looking to hire from outside of their district.
Currently my resume and cover letter are on ivory paper, I am thinking of switching to a light blue, and possibly a brown or different color font.
I get the idea, but I would not do it. I actually think it is a great idea, but I look at it this way-it may be too much for "formal people." You and I would never disqualify someone bc of the color of the paper, but I am sure other people might. You never know.
Also, the politics are so hard to fight. It is beyond ridiculous-if you don't know someone, you are pretty much out of luck. I do not think your paper color and font would make you stand out when people are simply being given jobs due to politics. Sorry to be negative, but that seems to be pretty much the rule for NJ schools-who you know gets you hired.

Thanks, and yes that did sound negative but it is nice to hear from another person how much politics play a role. I often think that maybe it is how I come off on paper rather than my resume is most likely not even being looked at.
I did go and buy the colored paper and ofcourse the matching envelopes!
There is no way (unless you have a relative in a school) that you are going to get a job as a History teacher with a CE. Alternate route is a thing of the past, and there are TONS of teachers going traditional route who want to be History teachers. You HAVE to get hired to go through the alternate route....cannot take the classes until you have a job and a mentor. Once you get hired, you enroll in the classes, but you won't be accepted into the classes unless you have a job.
There is a program that will take you without being hired at first, but eventually you need to have a job to get your standard certification. CEs are really useless in most cases.

When applying through AppliTrack do...See MoreHas anyone ever been called for an interview by way of applying through AppliTrack? I have read that there are specific "things" the system looks for, and will actually disqualify an application for. However, none of the sites have said really anything specific, other than underlining can disqualify etc.
When applying through AppliTrack does anyone send out paper resume follow ups?

I think more than anything, it all depends on the type of teaching position. For example, I'm a chemistry teacher. For every job I apply to, there are maybe a dozen or so applicants. If social studies is your subject, you'll probably be up against a couple hundred applicants.
