I too am a teacher looking for a position, and the nepotism is greater than I thought.
In my district multiple interviews are not even being done. They hire a relative, whether they are qualified or not, whether they have a degree or not, whether they have a CE or CEAS, and keep them even if they are not good. What is worse then what they are doing to teachers who are more qualified is what they are doing to the students.
Do you know if it is state mandated that interviews must be done?

What can I expect? Are there affordable, good places to live in NJ? I have relatives in Paterson, but I'm not willing to live there for my kids' sake. We live in a good neighborhood in Miami so I don't want to make a move that would harm them.
I really want details, the truth, the good, bad, and ugly.
ron/njI'm pretty sure there's a formula like working and collecting social security. Just try googling the info or call the state. I know that can be frustrating, but you will get the facts. Good luck.
Yep, I'm referring to the dreaded student growth objective. Logically there's no reason to submit as I jump ship! I guess I'm paranoid about some consequence that could affect my pension.
I need to know if there are any NJEA or state mandates that determine whether colleges/schools need to continue health benefits in the summer for employees who are not returning in the fall. I thought my summer benefits were tied to the previous year's work, even though I'm a 10 months employee, but I'm not sure. I don't want to ask HR because I don't want them to know I'm considering resigning.
Does anyone have any experience with this, or know someone in NJEA or the state that might have information? There is nothing specifically about when health benefits end in our contract that I can see.

unable to ask union rep as it would not be confidential. wondering what others have done or know what should be done, if 60 day notice is from last day of school or can I wait for 60 days from start of the school year?
