I have just moved to RI and am looking for an ESL job in the Providence area. I have a masters in TESOL, but have only worked as an ESL paraprofessional. I keep hearing people tell me there's a huge need for ESL, but I send out tons of resume packets and get no response. Any ideas/suggestions?

Now why it took them 8 days to figure out that this is solely for Massachuesetts teachers is something of a mystery to me, but that's what I was told today. It turns out that the information at the site Dan provided:
Renewable Energy Training Grants for Teachers
is somewhat deficient in what it provides and how it categorizes some things (I won't bore you with the details.) If you're not in Mass., teaching in the Mass. school system, this is not for you.
Talking to one of the guys listed at the sites, he referred me to:
Kidwind Project!
This group will take teachers from wherever, but all of their workshops are in New England (VT, ME, MA). Something to keep in mind if you're from here, or apt to be out this way. They still have slots open for some of their workshops this summer so if anyone's interested give it a try.
I'm part of an exchange that is in its 3rd year. For the upcoming school year we are looking for classrooms from the following states. Our members this year include schools in Germany, Canada & Ecuador. Anyone interested can contact Marian at [email removed]
Alaska Hawaii Idaho Nebraska New Mexico Nevada North Dakota Rhode Island Vermont Wyoming District of Columbia
Thank you!! We look forward to having you in our exchange!
I'm looking for a few new members to join my 2004-2005 postcard exchange! :o) This is an established International Post Card Exchange. Students love learning about their friends around the world! Please email me if you're interested! THANK YOU!
I'm taking the liberty of sharing an email I just received about the kidwind project. There are still seats available for a workshop that's to meet on the 24th which I'm thinking would be of some interest to science teachers in the immediate area. Contact information is provided in the email below.
Hello Friends!
Thanks for your application and we look forward to seeing you at the Wind Energy Workshop at Chewonki on June 24th
A web page on Kidwind has been established with a tentative agenda, directions and other useful information about the workshop. Head here to check it out… [link removed] .
We will provide a snack and lunch at this workshop and parking is free in the Chewonki parking lot.
We have some great guest speakers planned and lots of hands on activities to take home so we look forward to your attendance. If for some reason you have had a change in plans please let us know right away as we have to adjust numbers for food and materials.
This workshop still has space for 6 more teachers so if you have any friends that are teachers get them to sign up! There is still time! If they are not interested in wind energy tell them there is free food, materials and Chewonki is in a great location. We are especially interested in attracting teachers from the Carrabassett Valley, Stratton, Rangeley, Kingfield area in ME as they are planning a pretty big wind farm near Sugaloaf and we want to do a more in-depth wind project near there.
If you have the time or interest you might want to read some background information on wind before coming. This is not required but it may make the workshop more useful to you if you do. You can check out some preliminary material here… [link removed]
Well we look forward to seeing you on June 24th and please contact me if you have any questions at all!
Does anyone understand the situation regarding RI teachers collecting (or not be able to collect) social security benefits upon retirement? If so, could you please explain it in easy-to-understand language. Thanks.
I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD becoming a member of an established international post card exchange? If yes, please let me know. I am the organizer of an established international post card exchange. WE HAVE NEVER had a participant from your state and we would LOVE to have an opportunity to exchange post cards with you! I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks! :o)
My husband and I are considering relocating to New England and Rhode Island has caught our eye. However, I'm a bit concerned about the salary schedules I've seen. Although Rhode Island's average teacher salary is around $50,000, I notice that the beginning salary in the Providence school district is a paltry $31,000! Does this mean the majority of teachers in Rhode Island have 20+ years of experience?
Can anyone give me an idea of what we can expect to earn as public school teachers? My husband and I both hold masters degrees; he has 9 years of teaching experience and I have 2.
Thank you for your help! Jennifer Miller Fort Worth, Texas
Thanks Tracy - this is good information. Our fields are social studies and foreign language (French) so we may be in for a tough time. We're looking at Massachusetts too, but I'm just not sure we can afford to live there!

We still need a representative from your state. Please email me if you would like to participate in sending and receiving approximately 50 postcards from around the United States and a few other countries. We will be sending out the cards starting in September and finishing up before Thanksgiving. Take a look at the website I created to display last years cards for ideas of what to write on the back. It is a great opportunity to see the world without leaving your classroom. I look forward to hearing from you.
The following event has been cancelled.
