The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AL, AK, CO, CT, DE, DC, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, MT, NV, NH, ND, OR, RI, SC, SD, WV, WY
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange. Usually we have about 30 states, I would love to get all 50 states, but I haven't had that happen yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can add your state to our list.

We need a teacher from RI to join our exchange. You would need to commit to sending approximately 49 postcards during the year and receive that many in return. It's a great teaching tool and the kids really love it. Good for any grade level. Email me for more details.

ONLY the above states are needed.
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. [email removed].

Join the fun! We need ONE CLASS from Rhode Island to help complete our postcard group. If interested, you will need to obtain about 50 picture postcards and stamps. Include a message about your state (state symbols, interesting facts, famous places, people, etc.) We will mail our postcards in October. I will supply preprinted address labels. If you are interested in joining our group, please email me or go to my website and sign up there.
It's so much fun to see the excitement in your class when the mail comes and the postcards begin to arrive. US Geography has never been so much fun!
Hi! I am a high school teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio looking to move to RI next summer (2005). I am interested in what RI public schools are like and decent neighborhoods to live in. I am just doing a bit of research right now and I cannot find any concrete info regarding the rental prices for areas around Providence. Any information you can pass along regarding school districts and average pay (3rd year teacher with a masters), hiring practices, and mid-range rental areas would be greatly appreciated!
I am interested in moving to RI (too expensive in Ma, where I now live) and just commuting. Trying to figure out what my car insurance, excise taxes and water bills would be like in rhode island. Could you please let me know? (especially about the excise tax - it appears it'll be a huge chunk of change each year). thanks (also, t - did you find a job?)
Yes, I did find a job! It took a while, though. Taxes seem to be different depending on what town you live in. Insurance is different, too. If you live in Providence (a city), you will probably pay more (higher alleged risk)
Good luck! On 10/27/04, elizabeth wrote: > I am interested in moving to RI (too expensive in Ma, where I now > live) and just commuting. Hi, I am Miss M, a 5th grade teacher, from MS. Your state is needed for a K-6 postcard exchange. We'll only be accepting one address from each state. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for sending a postcard representing your state to all of the 49 states on the list. I will send you a list of all teachers participating in September. The list will close on September 30 or as soon as we have all 50 states. Help me spread the word! We will mail out postcards the month of October. IF you are interested please email me at [email removed].
When you post 100 times, you bump other messages away./blockquote>
Probably most people aren't interested, so why do we have to scroll past all those copies of the same message? Did you think we wouldn't see it the first time? Quit spamming the board already!

How does Understanding Taxes support instruction in the classroom? Check out the links to state and national standards reinforced in each lesson.
• The program is available online or, for more traditional instruction, as a package of downloadable print resources.
• Lesson plans outline teacher instruction, taking the guesswork out of teaching taxes.
• Materials can be used as a complete unit or can be presented as individual activities/lessons as your schedule allows.
• Links to related national and state educational standards are included where applicable.
• Content is divided into two distinct areas -- the Hows of Taxes provides tax application and the Whys of Taxes examines the theory and history behind taxes. • Background information eliminates the need for extensive outside research for tax materials.
