Hello,

My husband and I are considering relocating to New England
and Rhode Island has caught our eye. However, I'm a bit
concerned about the salary schedules I've seen. Although
Rhode Island's average teacher salary is around $50,000, I
notice that the beginning salary in the Providence school
district is a paltry $31,000! Does this mean the majority of
teachers in Rhode Island have 20+ years of experience?

Can anyone give me an idea of what we can expect to earn as
public school teachers? My husband and I both hold masters
degrees; he has 9 years of teaching experience and I have 2.

Thank you for your help!

I relocated here in March, and although it's a great place
and convenient to everything, it has been really hard to get
a job. There are lots of budget cuts going on (is this the
Bush economic rebound???) so many schools are giving out
pink slips. I have my masters in ESL, but most ads are for

Thanks Tracy - this is good information. Our fields are social
studies and foreign language (French) so we may be in for a
tough time. We're looking at Massachusetts too, but I'm just
not sure we can afford to live there!
