As I prepare for the coming school year, it has occurred to me that we are our own worst enemy. In my district, we receive a grand total of 2 days to prepare our classrooms and get ready for the year thanks to furloughs. In reality, it's more like 1 day given the meetings we have to attend. However, most of us will go in on our OWN time and work.

Parents will arrive for open house/first day and see that everything looks wonderful just like in years past. This will give the appearance the everything is "fine" and we don't "need" the days beforehand to prepare. Wouldn't it be nice if we could unite and do only what we can during those 2 days and not donate our time to the taxpayers of SC?

Thoughts?
Columbia Teach Maybe it would prove a point. But, I am against proving a point at the expense of my students. They are already going to suffer enough in the next couple of years due to lack of money, increased class sizes, eliminated classes like spanish, music, art, driver's ed, and even some classes like woodshop.
