I have a special ed credential, currently live in the overcrowded, bankrupt state of Ca. Teaching jobs are scarce. I taught in Wyoming last year but couldn't handle the solitude. I've met some folks from Tennessee, always very friendly, reminds me of the people I grew up with in Illinois. Apparently, Memphis actually needs special ed teachers. Would I be making a good decision to complete the online app and go for it??? Any comments would be appreciated.
My family and I are moving to Shelby County this summer. I'm certified and would love to find a school where I can work AND take my girls (4 and almost 2). Is there such a thing? I'm not interested in Memphis City Schools.
hello, i just recently moved to the clarksville TN area from canada and am wanting to teach. Since i've just graduated this past year, i have no other experience but my practicum in a grade 4 class. I am still waiting for my worker's visa and then would need to be certified in TN before i can obtain employment. What I am wanting to know is, since I have no experience in US school systems, if anybody can suggest other jobs that can help me gain/learn more about school systems in the states, specifically TN (I'd like to learn more before I get my certification here in TN and/or while I wait to be certified...eg. teachers aide?) Also, how vital is actual teaching experience to the hiring process? Thank you so much!
They always need substitute teachers, the pay isn't so great but if you have previous exerience they may pay you more. If you go to the Clarksville/Montgomery County School System central office on Gracey Avenue (kinda near downtown off of Crossland Avenue/kinda near the library) they give you a ton of paperwork to fill out. Hope that helps! On 4/25/07, EKM wrote: > hello, i just recently moved to the clarksville TN area > from canada and am wanting to teach. Substituting is always the best way to get into a system. There is also the systems nearby in KY and the Ft Campbell base school. If you need to volunteer, the Miss Tennky Area AFS Leadership Team is always looking for registered volunteers and host families currently for the fall. We need families for 4 students: 1 Thai female and 3 males from China, Chile and Paraguay. Call Jenny Myers at 615-385-9644 or e-mail her at AFShosting@misstennky today if you or you know of a family who would like to open their hearts and home to an AFS high school foreign exchange student for the next school year. They are fully insured medically and bring their own spending money. They need placements now in order to arrive in time for school to begin.

What would be a great district to work in Tennessee (in terms of available jobs, good salary, good students, nice area, etc)?
My fiancée and I are thinking about moving out of Michigan, due to the poor economy there. We are 27 and 25, and we both just received our teaching certificates (secondary) and I have endorsements in Physics and Earth/Space Sciences, and she has endorsements in Social Studies, History, Spanish, and ESL.
I grew up and work in East Tennessee and it is a wonderful place to be. I would recommend somewhere around the Chattanooga or Knoxville area. Many of the smaller counties in the area have fairly good salaries, students, and schools. I work in a small county and while we are a Title I school we have few discipline problems, great students, and a fairly large budget to work with. East Tennessee is beautiful with lots of outdoor beauty and activities (hiking, camping, Smokey Mtns, Ocoee River, etc) as well as other diverse fun stuff (Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls, shopping, restaurants, etc). I love it here-but I would just do your research and see what area of TN best fits your interests and lifestyle!

If you are expecting TN schools to be like Michigan schools, forget it. They are 30 years behind anything in the North or Northeast. I taught in Indiana and, I can tell you, the notion of union here is foreign. Sure, the weather and topography is great, but teachers work like dogs for low salary and little respect. I don't want to sound so negative, but it's a difficult place when you're used to Midwest schools that make sense.
The state of Georgia now has its own state teacher test. I was lucky and finished up the Praxis II tests before Georgia changed.
But, now I have books that no one in Georgia want. So, if anyone lives close to Dalton, GA, I would be glad to meet you somewhere in Dalton and will give you the books.
If you do not live close to Dalton, I will take them to the post office and see what it will cost to mail them media mail (takes about 10 days).
The books are listed below and I want to get rid of all of them together. I will take emails on a first come basis. So, if you want these books, email me quickly.
The books are:
ISBN Title 0-8220-2033-5 Cliffs Math Review for Standardized Tests 0-8220-2058-0 Cliffs Praxis II: NTE Core Battery 1-58197-010-2 XAM Teacher's Cert. Specialist 0-88685-283-8 The Praxis Series: Study Guide 2nd. Test 0012 0-7432-6550-5 Kaplan: Praxis 2006 Edition None given Teacher Exam: Elementary Eduation Study Guide
You may want to consider listing your books on [link removed].

I'm having the hardest time finding job postings for teachers around the Nashville area. I am 28 and looking to relocate in order to be closer to my family. I am currently living in Illinois where I have taught Physical Education at the secondary level for the past five years in a school district of over 3,000 students. I have also been the head girl's basketball coach for the past four years. I am looking for any openings in/around Nashville. Does anyone know of any available positions?
I realize it's been awhile since you posted but I'll respond anyway. The school systems down here are divided by county. Nashville is in Davidson county, and surrounding counties include Wilson, Rutherford, Williamson, Cheatham, Sumner, and Robertson. Your best bet is to google each school system and check the listings on their websites. I just did a quick search of Wilson county ([link removed]!

I need an art teacher to student teach with this summer in the area surrounding Davidson county (I believe someone told me that Wilson county had year round school for example). I need to do nine weeks with any willing teacher. I believe, my school (Fisk University) will offer some sort of pay compensation for willing participant. I wanted to do the student teaching this summer because I wanted to go to Graduate school in the fall, and student teaching is the only thing I have left to do to finish my undergraduate degree and also get my teacher certification. Any teachers or leads to teachers would be great. Thanx in advance
Hi Tennessee teachers, This fifth year group is looking for someone to represent your state in our postcard exchange for 07-08. Let me know if you would like to join us.
This sounds interesting. I teach 5th graders in a small rural community. I think my students would like this. Let me know if you still need someone. Thanks.

Teachers, Fancy an exchange visit but don't want to be shackled by local government conditions and requirements? I'm keen to exchange with a New Orleans area teacher during our respective school holidays for an opportunity to experience British Culture , with or without the opportunity to visit English Schools. I(48 year old married male) am willing to offer a bed in the family home in Derbyshire, England and accompanied(if required) excursions to many sites of .cultural significance. In return I would like to visit Memphis and the surrounding area. If interested, contact me at [email removed].
